Job Title: Communications Manager I

Michigan State University is seeking a highly skilled Communications Manager I to join our team. As a key member of our Communications and Marketing department, you will play a vital role in shaping our digital presence and engaging with internal and external audiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy, including content creation, audience engagement, and data-driven recommendations.
  • Content Creation: Craft compelling content for social media platforms, leveraging user-generated content and collaborating with partners across the university.
  • Digital Asset Management: Oversee the university's digital presence on platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Writing and Editing: Write articles and various assets for the university and its departments, sharing our story with the world.
  • Marketing Materials: Develop impactful marketing content that showcases the university's strengths and initiatives.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with team members to foster a collaborative spirit and drive collective success.
  • Service Excellence: Engage with the community through courteous, informed, and professional interactions, ensuring that every touchpoint reflects our commitment to excellence.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least one to three years of related and progressively more responsible work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing, and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, experience managing content for social media channels, and a strong grasp of social media strategy and analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Advanced Education: Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Additional Experience: At least five years of relevant experience in communications and marketing, showcasing expertise in social media planning, implementation, and analysis, writing, editing, and production for publications, or experience in news, broadcasting, and print media.
  • Specialized Skills: Experience in search engine marketing (SEM) campaigns and search engine optimization (SEO), along with a strong grasp of social media strategy and analysis.
