We are establishing a state-of-the-art, high-precision, high-volume, fast-paced, and highly automated testing laboratory dedicated to the rapid characterization of new materials for defense applications. This role focuses on the setup and execution of dynamic and static mechanical tests according to specified standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in daily safety discussions to promote a culture of safety – maintain process knowledge through training, conduct scheduled observations, and provide constructive feedback to enhance workplace safety.
  • Prepare and measure specimens for testing purposes.
  • Configure equipment, fixtures, and software for testing as required.
  • Operate dynamic and static test frames to conduct tests.
  • Compile comprehensive testing reports for multiple sample tests, ensuring compliance with testing requirements.
  • Verify that testing equipment and instruments are functioning correctly and calibrated.
  • Monitor tests for irregularities and proactively address any issues.
  • Calibrate and adjust instruments and testing equipment, assisting with maintenance as needed.
  • Communicate production and equipment issues to relevant personnel.
  • Ensure traceability of samples throughout the testing process.
  • Program and operate laboratory furnaces as necessary.
  • Analyze and convey both simple and complex test results effectively.
  • Collaborate with customers and engineering teams to ensure testing aligns with client expectations.
  • Adhere to Scot Forge Quality Policy standards.
  • Adapt to other departments as required by customer needs and business trends.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; college-level mathematics preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of prior laboratory testing experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience in setting up and operating dynamic and static test frames (fatigue, fracture toughness, creep/stress rupture, tensile and compression, impact).
  • Familiarity with various material grades and testing methodologies is preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency; capable of creating detailed test reports using MS Office and other software.
  • Willingness to attend and complete necessary training for certifications.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Work in metallurgy laboratory and shop floor environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Position requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Work under the supervision of the department manager, with potential for cross-training in other departments/locations/shifts to meet business needs.
  • Noise levels in the work environment can range from moderate to loud; appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
