The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and executing the strategic vision for the VA's security architecture, ensuring that it aligns with the organization's mission and federal cybersecurity requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of the Enterprise Security Architecture (ESA) project, ensuring alignment with the VA's mission, goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Architect and refine the ESA framework, incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as cloud, mobile, IoT, APIs, AI, and emerging solutions like 5G and post-quantum cryptography, to protect the VA's digital assets.
  • Integrate comprehensive risk management practices into the ESA, utilizing frameworks such as TOGAF and ArchiMate, to safeguard the VA's data and IT infrastructure.
  • Design and implement secure cloud architectures within the ESA project on platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, ensuring robust security controls are embedded throughout the cloud environment.
  • Analyze and evolve legacy VA IT systems, integrating them with the ESA project to enhance security while enabling the adoption of new digital technologies.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for the ESA project, including network topology diagrams, to support the VA's IT and security strategies.
  • Guide the deployment and integration of security architecture frameworks, such as SABSA, within the ESA project to standardize and improve security practices across the VA's enterprise.
  • Employ advanced threat modeling tools, including Threat Modeler and IBM Security Guardium, to identify, assess, and mitigate potential security threats within the ESA.
  • Continuously assess and incorporate emerging technologies into the ESA project, such as AI and post-quantum cryptography, to enhance the VA's security posture.
  • Collaborate with VA stakeholders, including IT, legal, and compliance teams, to ensure the ESA project meets all security and operational requirements.
  • Conduct trade-off analysis to balance security needs with cost, schedule, and performance objectives, ensuring that the ESA project delivers maximum value to the VA.
  • Ensure the ESA project complies with all relevant federal regulations and supports the process of obtaining and maintaining Tier 4 / High Risk Public Trust background investigations for team members.
  • Lead efforts to train VA technical teams on the ESA's architecture, security principles, and best practices, promoting a culture of security awareness throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in IT security architecture, including cloud, mobile, IoT, APIs, AI, and emerging technologies such as 5G and post-quantum cryptography.
  • Masters Degree in Cybersecurity, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Telecommunications (or 10 years of additional IT security experience may be substituted for education).
  • Demonstrated knowledge in evolving legacy and new digital architectures, including cloud, mobile, IoT, APIs, and AI technologies.
  • Experience in designing IT architectures and creating comprehensive diagrams and documentation (e.g., network topology).
  • Expertise in risk management, security framework integration, and security architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and ArchiMate.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, with a focus on secure architecture and deployment.
  • Proficiency in risk management, enterprise architecture tools, and guiding architecture tool processes (e.g., SABSA).
  • Ability to analyze legacy and modern digital architectures, including cloud, mobile, IoT, APIs, and AI technologies.
  • Skilled in using threat modeling tools such as Threat Modeler and IBM Security Guardium.
  • Experience in guiding architecture tools and processes, including Sherwood Applied Business Security Architecture (SABSA).
  • Expertise in trade-off analysis, balancing requirements with cost, schedule, and performance issues.
  • Ability to obtain a Tier 4 / High Risk Public Trust background investigation.
