Retail Sales Associate Wasilla

Alaska Industrial Hardware, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is seeking a qualified Counter Sales employee for its Wasilla retail location. As a front-line representative, you will be responsible for welcoming and assisting customers, maintaining a tidy and well-stocked store, and providing excellent customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Process POS transactions accurately and efficiently
- Ensure proper service and care is given to every customer
- Stock, assemble, and rotate merchandise from inbound store freight
- Complete daily assignments at the direction of the store management team
- Maintain assigned area of the store in accordance with merchandising standards
- Experience: Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred but not required
- Customer Service Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers and provide excellent service
- Basic Math Skills: Ability to handle cash transactions, give change, and accurately manage registers
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment
- Dependability: Punctuality and reliability with a strong work ethic
- Basic knowledge of products sold
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Self-motivation, with the ability to complete tasks during unsupervised periods
- Background in retail, construction, or trade industry
- Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices
- Proven work experience as a Retail Sales Associate, Sales Representative, or similar role
- Ability to be on your feet, standing, walking, and working on hard concrete and tile floors for full shifts
- Ability to lift and carry 50# repeatedly, safely, and without unusual strain
- Frequent bending, reaching overhead, kneeling, and squatting
- Frequent pulling and stocking inventory items onto carts, or with material handling equipment
- Job performed in an indoor retail store setting
- Exposure to computer screens and requires use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system
- Ability to properly use general warehouse material handling equipment
- Follow all safety rules and procedures, and properly use all safety gear
- Possess the proper situational awareness to work safely in a warehouse environment where you and others are using and operating forklifts, pallet jacks, packaging machines, ladders, box cutter, and other potentially dangerous equipment and tools
- Maintain a safe work environment, assist in maintaining a safe work environment both inside and outside the store, and comply with OSHA and MSDS standards
No supervisory responsibilities
Additional Qualifying FactorsAs a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work, a necessity, and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
