Software Development Director

About the RoleWe're seeking a Director, Software Development to manage and grow one or more engineering teams under Audible's Playback team. This team owns the core playback logic end-to-end, including services, systems, and players invoked each time customers click play. The ideal candidate will lead cross-functional project delivery, promote development and operational excellence, and mentor high-performing engineers.
Responsibilities- Manage 1-2 scrum teams in Players and insights space
- Lead cross-functional project delivery across Audible and Amazon teams
- Promote development and operational excellence for our flagship solutions
- Mentor and support high-performing engineers, fostering their growth and expertise
- Collaborate with diverse teams to create innovative software that captivates our community and motivates our colleagues
- Handle all aspects of software development, including operational metrics and support for your team's software
- Drive continuous improvement of delivery performance and quality in an agile environment
- 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
- Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
- 5+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
- 5+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
- Experience leading full stack development web teams
- 7+ years' experience of software development and deployment of distributed multi-tier applications
- 3+ years' experience managing agile software projects across multiple and geographically distributed teams
- Expertise in a variety of web and SOA distributed technologies and platforms such as Java/J2EE
- Experience implementing solutions leveraging AWS capabilities
- Experience leveraging machine learning models to deliver insights and enrich customer experiences
- Action-oriented strategic thinker

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
