This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in their work and enjoy contributing to the success of marine operations. As a vital part of our team, you will support the river crews by ensuring the safe transit of vessels and tows.

As a family-owned enterprise in the oil and gas sector, Ergon operates across the United States, with our marine subsidiary focused on facilitating traffic along the Mississippi River.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the adherence to company policies and regulations.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Supervise deck crew performance and ensure operational readiness.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of vessels and tows for safety and maintenance.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with our mission.
  • Evaluate tow configurations and exercise the authority to reject unsafe setups.
  • Ensure all crew members utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist in various operational tasks as directed by management.
  • Maintain and document the condition of EMIS fleets and equipment.
  • Perform inspections of barges and report any damages promptly.
  • Review tow orders to confirm sufficient vessel horsepower.
  • Document incidents and maintain accurate vessel logs.
  • Manage supply orders as necessary.
  • Ensure fire safety equipment is operational and compliant.
  • Verify the availability of life-saving equipment and first aid supplies.
  • Conduct safety training for crew members, including emergency drills.
  • Maintain the appearance of vessels through necessary maintenance tasks.
  • Complete the Towing Vessel Record each shift, which includes:
    • Engine Room Log
    • Fuel Operations Log
    • Pre-Sail Check List

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • U.S. Coast Guard license as Master of Towing Vessels/Limited Master of Towing.
  • Demonstrated competence and leadership skills within the company.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Valid TWIC Card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential).
  • Current driver's license.
