Job Overview

Ergon Marine & Industrial Supply, Inc. is seeking a skilled Deckhand to join its team at the Vicksburg location.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hard-working individual who enjoys manual labor and working in a team environment. As a Deckhand, you will be responsible for assisting the crew in various tasks, including vessel maintenance and operations.

Ergon is a family-owned oil and gas company based in the Jackson, MS area with facilities across the US. EMIS is a subsidiary with facilities that support marine traffic up and down the Mississippi River.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Deckhand Job Qualification Workbook within 90 days of employment and undergo vessel orientation within 12 hours of boarding a vessel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the crew in vessel maintenance and operations
  • Complete tasks as assigned by the captain
  • Use proper PPE while aboard any EMIS or customer vessel or dock
  • Report any hazardous or unsafe conditions to the captain
  • Assume the responsibilities of a Deckhand as trained

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Physically fit to perform manual labor
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend written instructions, documents, etc.
  • Must be able to swim
  • Must obtain or be in possession of a valid TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card)
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
