Art Handling Specialist

The Art Handling Specialist at Phillips Auctioneers LLC is responsible for ensuring the safe and timely preparation of works of art for display, exhibition, and transport. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and de-install artwork in galleries and storage areas
- Store artwork safely in warehouse facilities
- Load and unload trucks; move crated/packed works throughout the galleries and warehouse
- Pack and unpack artwork for shipment
- Assist in preparing galleries for display/exhibition by spackling, light painting, etc.
- Assist in framing and unframing of two-dimensional artworks and mounting of three-dimensional works of art
- Assist in making assessments concerning the safety of works and taking necessary action to secure artworks
- Assist photographers during shoots
- May assist in the construction of new or retrofitting previously constructed crates
- Dispose of materials and unused crates in warehouse and galleries
- Assist with special events, including acting as a viewing assistant which requires neat appearance and interaction with clients
Requirements:
- 1 year's experience in an auction house, internationally recognized gallery, fine art shipping, or museum
- Working knowledge of various packing methods suitable to a wide range of media
- Working knowledge of installation methods suitable to a wide range of media
- Audio/Visual skills are preferred
- Basic electrical skills, including wiring, are preferred
- Finish carpentry skills are preferred
Estimated Salary: $28.50 per hour
