At Optum, we are committed to delivering high-quality patient care and exceptional service. As a Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in our team, responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients for laboratory testing.
Key Responsibilities:- Collect blood and other specimens from patients using various techniques, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
- Identify and label specimens accurately to ensure proper handling and testing.
- Communicate effectively with patients to ensure their comfort and understanding throughout the process.
- Enter accessioning data into the computer system to ensure accurate tracking and processing of specimens.
- Prepare specimens for send-out testing and maintain inventory of supplies to ensure efficient collection and processing.
- 1 year of phlebotomy experience (additional education may be substituted for minimum experience requirement).
- Certification from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques, container and minimum volume requirements for specimen collection, and technical correctness of EKG and spirometry printouts.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, interacting with patients, laboratory staff, and medical staff.
Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical group and laboratory environment.
