About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at Optum in the Tri-State region. As a Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in helping patients feel their best by performing venipuncture and capillary puncture on adults, neonates, and pediatric patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect blood samples from patients using state-of-the-art technology
  • Instruct patients on urine and stool collection procedures
  • Enter accessioning data into the computer system
  • Prepare specimens for send-out testing
  • Inventory supplies and prepare phlebotomy stations
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and visitors
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, management staff, and physicians
Requirements:
  • 1+ years of phlebotomy experience (additional education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement)
  • Certification from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques for blood, urine, and stool collection
  • Understanding of container and minimum volume requirements for specimen collection
  • Ability to support the body weight of an adult patient when moving from a chair to an exam table
  • Visual acuity and normal color perception
Working Conditions:

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical group and laboratory environment.
