Position Overview

The Inpatient Physical Therapist is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a medically prescribed physical therapy regimen aimed at restoring functionality, alleviating discomfort, and preventing disabilities in patients facing various physical challenges. This role is crucial in assisting patients to achieve their highest potential and reintegrate into their daily lives while adapting to their individual capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess physician's orders, patient conditions, and medical histories to determine necessary physical therapy interventions.
  • Conduct evaluations to measure patient strength, motor skills, sensory perception, and overall functional capacity, documenting findings to establish a therapy diagnosis and create or update a comprehensive care plan.
  • Apply evidence-based treatment methods, utilizing manual exercises, therapeutic equipment, and patient support for various physical activities, including daily living tasks and gait training, while meticulously recording treatment sessions.
  • Monitor treatment outcomes at different stages, modifying approaches to maximize patient benefits, and prepare detailed progress reports.
  • Identify educational needs of patients and their families, initiating timely instruction based on age, length of hospitalization, readiness to learn, and emotional condition.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all personal health information.
  • Facilitate patient discharge when therapeutic goals are achieved or when continued skilled therapy is no longer necessary, and compile a comprehensive discharge summary.
  • Guide and supervise the activities of support staff, including physical therapist assistants, rehabilitation aides, students, and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures, maintaining acceptable attendance, punctuality, and professional appearance.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Educational Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy
  • Preferred: Master’s or Doctorate in Physical Therapy
Experience Requirements
  • Required: No prior clinical experience as a Physical Therapist is necessary
  • Preferred: Two years of clinical experience as a Physical Therapist
Licensure and Certification Requirements

Minimum:
  • Eligible for Physical Therapist licensure in the state of Indiana
  • Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association)
