Water Production Superintendent Job Summary

The City of Olathe's Environmental Services Division is seeking a highly skilled Water Production Superintendent to oversee the operation of the city's water production facilities. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in water treatment and distribution, as well as excellent leadership and management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the overall operation of the city's water production facilities, including water supply wells, water treatment plant, and distribution pumping and storage facilities.
  • Supervise, assign, train, and evaluate assigned staff, including hiring, scheduling, and overseeing daily work tasks.
  • Administer business functions of the Water Production section, including recommending and implementing goals and objectives, and participating in the preparation and administration of the assigned budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulations and departmental policies and procedures, and work cooperatively with outside regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with other work groups and City departments on matters relating to the operation and maintenance of water production facilities, and analyze water quality and operational data to identify areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in operating water treatment and distribution facilities is required.
  • Experience supervising the work of direct reports is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and an associate degree in environmental technology or a related field is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required, and a Class IV Water Operator Certification with the State of Kansas is required.

Work Environment

The Water Production Superintendent will perform work in both indoor and outdoor environments and will be subject to adverse weather conditions and noise. The work requires routine and frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and the ability to move between multiple locations, often multiple times in a day.
