Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the general ledger in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position involves reviewing and/or initiating and posting journal entries, monitoring posted financial data, preparing financial analyses and reconciliations, and participating in the preparation of GAAP reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform monthly financial close activities, including preparation, review, and posting of journal entries.
  • Reconcile and analyze assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly variance analyses for management reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of GAAP Reporting.
  • Act as a key point of contact for all financial auditing processes.
  • Prepare audit schedules and footnote input.
  • Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures.
  • Assist in documenting internal processes/controls and developing improvements as appropriate.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to new accountants, enhancing departmental functions and overall productivity.
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Graduate degree highly preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred.
  • 4 years progressive experience in accounting/public accounting.
  • Prior experience in the dental/health insurance industry or related industry required.
Preferred Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Strong understanding of dental insurance industry highly preferred.
  • Ability to research and provide written guidance on new accounting pronouncements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, etc.
  • Functional experience with SAGE 300 and HSP system preferred.
