Homeland Security Instructional Faculty Pool

Job Type: Temporary/Lecturer
Location: San Diego
Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Temporary, Part Time, Faculty - Public Affairs

Overview

The College of Sciences at California State University is inviting applications for its lecturer pool in the Homeland Security program.

We are seeking applications from potential temporary faculty with knowledge or experience in the following domains:
  • Homeland Security
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Cyber Crime and Warfare
Temporary appointments may be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis. Part-time positions are often filled shortly before the academic term begins, so candidates should be prepared for rapid availability. The academic terms typically run from mid-August to late-December for the Fall and from mid-January to mid-May for the Spring. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Initial appointments are generally for one semester or one academic year, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory evaluations and ongoing availability of positions. Applications will remain active in our applicant pool throughout the academic year.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria
  • Possession of a college degree
  • Experience in university teaching or relevant field experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject matter
Application Process

Prospective temporary faculty interested in having their applications on file are encouraged to submit the following documents:
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Contact details for three (3) professional references (for new applicants)
  • Cover letter (for new applicants)
  • Unofficial transcripts (for new applicants)
Initial rank and salary for lecturer positions are determined based on professional experience and educational qualifications, as assessed by the hiring department. Most new hires are appointed at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the salary range.

As part of its commitment to a safe and equitable community, California State University requires that individuals seeking faculty employment provide authorization for background checks at the time of application if they become finalists for the position; applications lacking this authorization will be deemed incomplete.

The individual in this role is classified as a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with the requirements outlined in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

A satisfactory background check (including a criminal records check) is required before any candidate can be offered a position with the university. Failure to successfully complete the background check may impact the application status of candidates or the continued employment of current university employees who apply for the position.

California State University is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against individuals based on race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression, marital status, age, disability, pregnancy, medical condition, or veteran status.
