Key Responsibilities- Administer medications to residents in a timely and accurate manner, following established policies and procedures.
- Perform narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift to maintain accurate records.
- Order medications from the pharmacy, adhering to community policies and procedures.
- Review and update residents' medication administration records (MARs) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Communicate with residents' families to bring in medication as needed, if applicable.
- Pull expired or discontinued medications, prepare for destruction, and maintain a clean and organized medication storage area.
- Administer treatments, take vital signs, and weigh residents as needed.
- Document and chart residents' changes and unusual occurrences, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Ensure lab work, faxes, physician orders, and medication orders are completed and filed according to community policies and procedures.
- Schedule doctor appointments as needed, ensuring timely and efficient communication with residents and their families.
- Admit new residents, ensuring a smooth transition and adherence to community policies and procedures.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, such as showers, grooming, dressing, and toileting, as needed.
- Assist with basic cleaning and maintenance issues, maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents.
- Clean up after incidents in a timely and efficient manner, maintaining the dignity of the resident.
- Escort residents to and from the dining room, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Pick up laundry from residents' apartments, transport to the laundry room, and maintain a clean and organized laundry area.
- Assist in serving meals and beverages, taking meal orders as needed, and maintaining a positive and respectful dining environment.
- Answer call lights with patience and compassion, following company guidelines.
- Listen to residents with empathy and assurance, following up with appropriate personnel regarding resident concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality of residents' personal information, protecting and supporting their rights.
- Communicate with residents, families, visitors, and employees in a positive and respectful manner, using excellent communication skills.
- Provide tours to potential residents and families, showcasing how individual needs can be met and promoting the concept of care in the community.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, encouraging a positive and nurturing environment for residents, families, vendors, and guests.
- Ensure excellent customer service by maintaining open and honest communication, answering phone calls promptly and professionally, and ensuring residents', families', physicians', and other employees' needs are met.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certification in medication administration and CPR/First Aid as required per state regulations.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and families.
- Knowledge of medication administration, including safe handling and storage procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends, as needed.
The Medication Aide will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, interacting with residents, staff, and families. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The working environment will require moderate physical activity, including handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently. The Medication Aide must be able to stoop, bend, and reach, and lift residents in excess of 100 pounds with assistance.
