Position Overview

The Patient Safety Coordinator (PSC) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for leading initiatives that enhance patient safety and healthcare program development. This role requires strong leadership skills, meticulous planning, and effective communication to foster innovative strategies aimed at improving patient safety. The PSC must prioritize tasks efficiently, adhere to deadlines, and deliver professional presentations through various communication channels.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Current federal employees of the Veterans Health Administration.
Agency Clarification

Applicants must be permanent employees of the Veterans Health Administration.

Key Responsibilities

The PSC will oversee the daily operations and execution of the Patient Safety Program. This includes collaborating with various departments to ensure effective implementation of safety protocols. The PSC will engage in both short-term and long-term planning efforts, adhering to directives for annual and cyclic planning documents. This role is pivotal in advising on the development and execution of safety programs within the healthcare facility.

The PSC will also be responsible for consolidating safety documentation for submission and providing expert guidance on healthcare planning. This includes assessing changes in legislation and technology that may impact safety practices and developing new systems to address these changes.

The PSC acts as a consultant for safety policies and initiatives, promoting a culture of safety across the healthcare environment.

Compensation and Benefits

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current, unrestricted nursing registration in a U.S. state or territory.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing.
  • 3-5 years of experience in quality improvement strategies and patient safety.
  • Strong teamwork and critical thinking skills.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting in patient care settings.
