Florida Cancer Affiliates is seeking a dedicated PRN Pharmacist to enhance our healthcare team.

As a Pharmacist, you will operate under minimal supervision to prepare and dispense medications in accordance with professional standards. You will maintain essential records for prescriptions, patient charges, and inventory management. Collaboration with nursing and medical staff regarding prescriptions, orders, and patient care will be key to your role. You will also ensure compliance with legal regulations and accreditation standards while supporting the US Oncology Compliance Program, including adherence to the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and dispense medication orders while maintaining a comprehensive patient profile and drug data file to assess orders for any incompatibilities.
  • Verify the completeness of all orders, ensuring patient information and physician authorization are accurate. Confirm insurance approval prior to admixture.
  • Accurately admixture drugs as prescribed by physicians, adhering to departmental guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Ensure precise preparation of all medications, checking prescriptions for completeness and calculating dosages accurately.
  • Oversee the workflow of pharmacy technicians, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, as well as order entries and inspections. Provide pharmacological information to healthcare professionals and patients.

  • Offer and document drug counseling for all patients, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards, particularly regarding controlled substances.
  • Educate patients on the effects of food and alcohol on medications, warning them of potential side effects, and providing professional drug information to medical staff.
  • Participate in pharmacy education and in-service programs, ensuring proper disposal of materials used in IV admixture.
  • Maintain accurate logs for all medications, checking for expiration dates and keeping temperature records.
  • Assist with inventory management, including ordering and shelving medications, and ensuring adequate supplies across departments.
  • Stay informed on new drug information through education from representatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare reports and monitor activities as directed.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited pharmacy school and a valid state license are required. A minimum of three years of experience as a registered pharmacist is preferred, with at least three years in a pharmacy setting that includes IV skills. An oncology background is advantageous. Current licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of practice is mandatory. You may also supervise pharmacy technicians.
