Position Overview:

The Creative Services Assistant plays a vital role in enhancing the visibility and engagement of the Make Shop and Library offerings. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting the community and promoting creative initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the promotion of Make Shop and Library services through various outreach activities and digital platforms.
  • Support the preparation and execution of Make Shop events, including the weekly Crafternoon sessions.
  • Provide fundamental troubleshooting assistance for equipment and devices within the Make Shop.
  • Deliver information and guidance to patrons utilizing the Make Shop, ensuring they receive the necessary support.
  • Contribute to the upkeep and organization of the Make Shop environment.
  • Engage in marketing efforts and represent the Make Shop at outreach events.
  • Deliver basic customer service and manage material check-ins and check-outs as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • May assist the Circulation Department and gain experience with essential tasks such as utilizing the Library of Congress classification system and providing customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current student at Harper College, enrolled in a minimum of six credits per semester.
  • Experience with sewing machines, 3D printers, and graphic design software is a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and work effectively under pressure.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, GIMP, and Inkscape is advantageous.
  • Training will be provided for assisting users with various machines in the Make Shop.

Work Schedule:

  • Work hours will be determined based on student availability, with required presence during Make Shop operational hours.
  • Potential for additional hours related to marketing, programming, outreach, and event preparation.
