Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides educational services to individuals with autism. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Aide to join our team.
Job Duties- Develop and implement student work activities based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Behavior Plans (BIPs), and supplement plans under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Participate in Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings in the absence of the teacher.
- Collect data on academics and behavior.
- Complete required special education reports and other documents.
- Monitor and engage with students at all times, keeping them on task and redirecting as necessary.
- Ensure ratio compliance at all times.
- Assist students with hygiene as needed.
- Prepare the classroom for the instructional day each morning and clean and prepare the classroom for the following day each afternoon.
- Monitor and support student arrivals and dismissals.
- Show compassion, build rapport, and encourage students to reach their full potential.
- Work with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each student.
- High School Diploma or GED required; at least 15 hours of college coursework in a related field preferred.
- Education Aide Certification through the Texas Education Agency (TEA) preferred.
- Prior experience working with students with autism or intellectual disabilities required.
- Ability to take initiative in planning and starting classroom activities.
- Current CPR/AED Certification required.
- Current, valid Texas Driver's License required.
- Ability to demonstrate Avondale House Core Values: Commitment, Achievement, Respect, Integrity, Nurturing, Growth.
- Passion to assist those with autism and intellectual disabilities in order to reach their full potential.
- Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
- Lifting/Moving up to 50 lbs and lifting/moving up to 100 plus lbs with assistance.
- Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
- Stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to handle situations that may be stressful at times.
