About the Role

The Director of Development, Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing, is a key member of the University of California, Irvine's Health Advancement team. This role plays a critical part in implementing the fundraising campaign and vision for the Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing. Reporting directly to the Senior Executive Director of Development, Health Advancement, and working under the strategic direction of the Dean, the Director of Development ensures that all fundraising efforts align with the School's goals and priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Senior Executive Director of Development, Health Advancement, to execute fundraising strategies and secure philanthropic investments that support the School's mission.
  • Work closely with the Dean and University Advancement to achieve fundraising objectives and ensure alignment with the School's goals and priorities.
  • Develop and implement effective stewardship plans to lead to additional investments.
  • Provide high-level coordination with both the Dean and University Advancement to achieve fundraising objectives.
Requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Advanced written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
  • Advanced organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution, and strong project management skills.
  • Very strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials.
  • Ability to work independently with both school and institutional goals in mind.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Salesforce or a comparable donor/prospect database system.
  • Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments.
  • Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects and/or deadlines. Ability to meet demanding work schedule expectations.
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years professional fundraising experience in higher education, preferably in an academic medical setting.
  • A minimum of five years' successful professional development and/or fundraising-related experience, preferably in higher education, OR, any equivalent combinations of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill, and abilities have been achieved.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and/or throughout higher education/healthcare generally.
  • Advanced working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, and infrastructure.
Special Conditions
  • May work long hours to accommodate events and after-hours meetings.
  • Local, regional, and national travel is required.
