Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Kiln/Boiler Operator to join our team at Kennebec Lumber Co. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining our kilns and boilers, ensuring the efficient drying of lumber and adherence to our organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sample Collection and Testing
    • Collect and test lumber samples to determine moisture content and drying rates.
    • Use a formula to calculate moisture content and document results.
  • Kiln Operations
    • Load and unload kilns using a forklift.
    • Perform daily maintenance tasks, including checking wet bulbs and verifying vents.
    • Read and execute the KLC Dry Kiln Manual.
  • Boiler Maintenance
    • Load sawdust into the boiler.
    • Develop and sustain a preventative maintenance plan for the boiler and dry kilns.
    • Perform annual boiler inspections and general boiler maintenance.
  • Quality Control
    • Verify air flow and exiting air speed.
    • Strategically place samples to monitor variances in air flow, color, and moisture content.
  • Team Leadership
    • Develop a team of 2-3 individuals to rotate on-call for non-production and weekend hours.
Requirements
  • Ability to read and execute the KLC Dry Kiln Manual.
  • Experience with kiln and boiler operations.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
