Orthopedic Technician Job Description

At Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, we are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Technician to support our physician practices. This is a float position where you may be scheduled to work in any of our area locations daily.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for patients
  • Perform suture and staple removal, and dressing changes
  • Apply immobilization materials and devices to patients according to medical provider orders and specifications
  • Prepare, apply, and remove casts and perform other related treatment modalities
  • Evaluate and adjust sizes, materials, and/or equipment settings as necessary to meet specific patient needs and treatment objectives
  • Explain procedures and provide instruction on care and use of immobilization supplies and equipment to patients, families, and/or caregivers
  • Establish supportive relationships with patients and families, identifying specific needs and incorporating into patient care as appropriate
  • Maintain equipment and supply inventory within assigned work area
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning, sterilizing, and maintenance
  • Monitor work volume and patient flow, organizing and prioritizing workload to meet schedules and patient care requirements
  • Maintain effective communication with physicians, advanced practitioners, and co-workers
  • Input and verify patient information
Requirements:
  • Two to three years of experience in a hospital, institution, or private practice setting as an orthopedic technician is preferred
  • Knowledge of standard sterile techniques and principles/methods used in preparing, applying, and removing casts
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with providers, staff, and patients and work productively and independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience working in a fast-paced setting with a diverse population and ability to be flexible and adapt to changes
  • Highly committed team player and proactive self-starter; reliable and able to be flexible in a changing environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • HS Diploma or GED
