Position Summary:
The selected candidate will oversee the coordination of mining, production, and quality evaluation activities. This includes developing mining strategies, conducting statistical analyses of in-process materials, and ensuring that finished products meet specified standards. Collaboration with geologists, corporate quality management systems, operations, customer service, and sales teams will be essential to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction. Additionally, the role involves identifying opportunities for improvement within the quality management system and assisting process owners in documenting effective operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear communication and provide direction to all team members under supervision.
- Deliver testing and technical assistance for mining, production, and packaging operations.
- Identify critical quality metrics based on customer requirements and production capabilities.
- Ensure timely and accurate test results to prevent the production of non-compliant products.
- Monitor performance metrics to achieve continuous improvement objectives and report findings to management.
- Develop and manage testing and control programs as necessary at specific sites.
- Supervise laboratory operations to guarantee proper calibration, testing methods, and maintenance of instruments and supplies.
- Support plant trials and special projects as directed by management.
- Assess corrective and preventive actions for recurring issues identified in various communications and observations.
- Analyze quality data for trends related to customer feedback and internal processes, communicating findings to team members promptly.
- Initiate investigations into root causes of quality issues when applicable, exercising independent judgment to address significant concerns.
- Create and maintain reports and dashboards as required.
- Coordinate the development and review of documentation.
- Mentor process owners to ensure understanding and sustainability of the Quality Management System.
- Establish SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Aligned, Relevant, Timely), provide ongoing coaching, and assess team performance.
- Comply with all quality management system procedures and documentation relevant to the position and department, adhering to ISO requirements.
- Perform additional projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A bachelor's degree in chemistry, geology, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred, though relevant work experience may be considered.
- Experience in a laboratory environment combined with geological or engineering fieldwork is advantageous.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels, including contractors.
- Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- General knowledge of safety regulations is beneficial.
- Proactive in seeking improvements in quality, production, and safety aspects of operations.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills for presenting data in corporate settings.
- High moral and ethical standards.
- Proven leadership abilities, utilizing coaching and teamwork skills.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily office-based, with some responsibilities in a production setting. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb. Physical capabilities include lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying up to 55 lbs. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating a computer keyboard, and vision and hearing are essential for the role.
