The Coalitions Communications Advisor collaborates with the Communications team to design and implement a proactive, culturally aware engagement strategy targeting Spanish-speaking Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Black, Native American, and LGBTQ+ media outlets. This position is responsible for overseeing the DNC's initiatives to effectively communicate the Democratic agenda to these communities while ensuring accountability for Republican actions. Key tasks include shaping media coverage, identifying opportunities to enhance the DNC's visibility, and leading a dedicated team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications team to formulate and execute proactive media outreach strategies and advertising plans tailored for coalitions;
  • Establish and nurture ongoing relationships with coalition media outlets and journalists, facilitating the pitching and shaping of news coverage;
  • Coordinate with other communications team members to identify and secure surrogates and validators for various media interviews;
  • Manage special projects, rollouts, and messaging events effectively;
  • Identify innovative opportunities to promote the DNC's initiatives and fulfill messaging objectives;
  • Oversee the quality and distribution of written materials, ensuring accuracy from drafting to delivery;
  • Assist in organizing press events in collaboration with the Political and Coalitions teams;
  • Monitor current events and identify strategic opportunities to advance the DNC's messaging goals;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.
Qualifications:
  • Commitment to core Democratic principles;
  • A minimum of 5-7 years or 3 election cycles of relevant experience in media relations;
  • Experience working with various constituency media types;
  • Exceptional writing and research capabilities;
  • A passion for teamwork and team management;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to cultivate robust relationships across all organizational levels;
  • Cultural awareness and a dedication to fostering cross-cultural competencies.
