Job Summary:

The Resident Advocate is a critical staff member responsible for ensuring the daily operations of the Shelter program run smoothly. This includes welcoming and orienting new residents, providing crisis intervention and conflict resolution services, and facilitating daily enrichment activities to enhance the shelter stay experience.

Key Responsibilities:

* Welcome new residents, complete necessary paperwork, and provide a thorough orientation to the building and program.
* Provide supportive listening, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution services to residents.
* Educate residents on community and agency resources, and assist in connecting them to these resources.
* Distribute material goods in accordance with shelter procedures, such as clothing, medications, bus tokens, and personal hygiene supplies.
* Open the computer lab and provide guidance and assistance to special event and ongoing volunteers.
* Act as backup to the Operations Assistant for room turnover, including cleaning and preparing rooms.
* Answer the 24-hour hotline as backup to the Contact Center.
* Screen and accept new residents into the Emergency Shelter program.
* Complete daily documentation of activities through the agency's software system and paper system.

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Human Services or 3 years of experience in victim-centered advocacy or residential programs.
* Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to relate to a diverse range of individuals, including victims, children, donors, and community professionals.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
* Ability to work Wednesday-Sunday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
* Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
* Knowledge of local human service resources.
* Experience with conflict resolution/mediation.
* Ability to pass a criminal background check.
* Ability to understand intimate partner violence and its effects on the client population.
