Mechanical Designer II

Logistic Services International is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer II to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and detailing mechanical components and systems under the guidance of engineering management.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to complete design projects on time and within budget.
- Coordinate project tasks and schedules, delegating work to drafters and support staff as needed.
- Provide design and manufacturing support, ensuring specification compliance and documentation of mechanical systems, subassemblies, and components.
- Develop and implement new concepts and approaches to design on new products.
- Recommend materials and components for inclusion in design specifications based on experience and catalogue reference data.
- Solve technical problems with equipment in the field, providing technical expertise to the organization and interacting with suppliers.
- Stay up-to-date with industry standards and ensure designs meet applicable safety requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, reviewing designs with other engineering, manufacturing, and production personnel to ensure they meet all requirements.
- Prepare and present written, oral, and visual materials to support proposals, presentations, design reviews, and written reports.
- Develop cost estimates for proposed projects, including labor and material costs.
- Organize and maintain project folders, reporting project status to managers and other stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Plan, perform, or direct experiments to prove design performance.
- Coach and mentor drafters and junior engineers.
- Strong understanding of 3D mechanical CAD, including detail drawings and models, and applying large assembly management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain engineering perspectives to upper management and the engineering team.
- Intensive and diversified knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
- Able to make decisions independently on engineering problems, using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
- Able to handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
- Understanding of sheet metal and machined part fabrication practices and documentation standards.
- Strong ability to work with others and be an active part of a cross-functional team.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and work to a schedule.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other 3D modeling software, Solidworks Simulation, and EPDM Configuration Management.
- Preferred experience with Faro Arm 3D Scanner and Geomagic Design X software.
- Preferred experience in 3D printing, additive manufacturing, and rapid prototyping.
- Able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.
- Associate degree in a related field or a certification from a technical institute or equivalent.
- Eight years of drafting experience.
- Two years of experience as a mechanical drafter.
