Position Overview

The Chief Physician is responsible for delivering high-quality medical care, employing effective management strategies, and exercising sound clinical judgment based on established best practices and evidence-based medicine. This role encompasses providing medical services within the limits of their professional qualifications, training, and credentials. Additionally, the Chief Physician has expanded responsibilities that include practice enhancement, staff training, and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality medical care, employing effective management strategies and sound clinical judgment based on best practices and evidence-based medicine. Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient, staff, and program information.
  • Oversee medical services at one or more care locations, ensuring clinical quality, operational efficiency, and patient-centered care.
  • Assist the Medical Director in identifying areas for department-wide performance enhancement. Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives using available data to achieve departmental quality metrics.
  • Provide supervision and collaboration with advanced practice providers (APPs) as needed.
  • Support the Medical Director in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of medical personnel.
  • Collaborate with the Department Medical Director to ensure coverage for colleagues.
  • Coordinate with nursing leadership, collaborate with other specialties, and assist with service recovery efforts.
  • Actively participate in the development and promotion of CSHHC Adult Medicine practice locations in partnership with CSHHC Marketing and Outreach teams.
  • Provide consultations as necessary per agreements with community partners.
  • Educate patients on preventive healthcare and chronic disease management or refer them to appropriate resources.
  • Consult with other staff or specialists to facilitate appropriate referrals for acute, chronic, and preventive healthcare.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Medical Degree from an accredited institution, board certification/eligibility in a primary care specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Medicine/Pediatrics), completion of residency training from an accredited program, valid unrestricted state license, valid unrestricted DEA certification, familiarity with managed care protocols, PCMH requirements, and electronic medical records. CPR Certification is mandatory.

Experience: Board Certification or Board Eligibility is required. Connecticut Licensure is necessary. The ideal candidate will be highly regarded as a clinician with leadership potential, capable of motivating a team and providing operational guidance. Experience in quality improvement, financial management, operational oversight, and/or personnel management within a clinical setting is advantageous.
