Purpose and Scope
Conduct a variety of civil and structural engineering tasks to support project development, design, operations, installation, and maintenance of systems such as drainage systems, roadways, stormwater management, structures, bridges, and other civil-related infrastructures.
These systems are situated at various locations within the Kennedy Space Center, including areas surrounding space flight hardware processing facilities and support buildings.
Key Responsibilities
System Specific
- Execute a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks with minimal supervision.
- Conduct annual assessments of drainage systems for condition, necessary repairs, and other relevant details.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends in civil and structural engineering.
- Provide on-site technical guidance for the installation and modification of equipment and structures requiring civil/structural engineering expertise.
Maintenance
- Update and enhance asset information in the management database for assigned equipment.
- Develop and maintain job plans and preventive maintenance schedules in accordance with operational requirements.
- Conduct site visits to diagnose system issues, propose solutions, and recommend actions to restore functionality.
- Offer technical support to technicians in troubleshooting equipment-related problems.
- Prepare Technical Anomaly reports detailing issues and resolutions for review.
Readiness
- Develop and deliver mission-related presentations to stakeholders as required.
- Perform readiness evaluations of assigned systems and equipment.
Project Support
- Collaborate closely with requesters, clients, and other engineering and management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
- Serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist in the development of technical proposals and documentation as needed.
- Coordinate with design teams and personnel to ensure effective communication and project execution.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field, along with 12+ years of relevant experience, or 18+ years of applicable experience without a degree. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential. Proficiency in industry-standard software is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- May require limited travel and the ability to obtain a Security Clearance.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and reasoning.
- Strong analytical skills for data-driven decision-making.
- Proficient in standard office software including spreadsheets and presentation tools.
- Capable of interpreting technical documents and schematics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Other Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain necessary government clearances.
- Effective communication in English, both written and verbal, is required.
- Valid driver's license is necessary.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This role typically involves an office environment with standard hazards; occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds; continuous sitting and computer use; and the need for mental alertness and organizational skills.
Fieldwork may include site inspections related to corrosion planning, with appropriate safety training and equipment provided.Other Responsibilities:
