We are seeking a highly skilled Water/Sewer Construction Manager to join our team at the City of New Bern, NC. As a key member of our Water Resources department, you will be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer lines and facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, organize, and direct the work of crew supervisors, semiskilled workers, and equipment operators in the installation, repair, maintenance, rehabilitation, or construction of water and sewer lines and facilities.
- Schedule and direct work of crews to ensure efficient and effective completion of tasks.
- Supervise the installation of water and sewer taps, fire hydrants, water meters, valves, and related facilities.
- Supervise the repair and replacement of sewer and water lines and related facilities, including unstopping sewer lines.
- Operate trucks, tractors, back-hoe, trencher, and other mechanical equipment in connection with assigned tasks.
- Maintain and file as-built drawings and various other documents and reports.
- Assign equipment and tools to employees.
- Assist with supervising fire hydrant crews.
- Respond to customer complaints and complete incident reports.
- Order supplies and maintain inventory, and prepare reports.
- Thorough knowledge of methods and techniques used in the repair, maintenance, rehabilitation, and construction of water and sewer lines.
- Thorough knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in line repair work.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to operate trucks and construction and repair equipment.
- Ability to assign and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to prepare simple reports, drawings, and sketches.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
- Ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and extensive experience in the maintenance, repair, and/or construction of water and sewer lines.
Special Requirements- Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
- Possession of Grade III Collection and Grade B Distribution certifications issued by the State of North Carolina.
