Responsibilities

Note: The following responsibilities are illustrative and not exhaustive.   • Oversees the collection, analysis, and presentation of data and trends for evaluating land development proposals and community growth plans.
  • Directs the extraction of information for studies and reports related to land use, economic factors, transportation systems, utility frameworks, community facilities, demographics, housing, and neighborhood planning.
  • Leads the drafting and interpretation of zoning, subdivision, and other land development regulations.
  • Supervises the creation of future land use, transportation, and community facility plans, along with other comprehensive planning documents.
  • Manages the analysis and presentation of data for developing capital improvement plans and programs.
  • Represents the organization in meetings with elected officials and interdepartmental or intergovernmental gatherings.
  • Performs additional related duties as necessary.
Job Specifications
  • Understanding of comprehensive planning principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations governing comprehensive planning.
  • Knowledge of data collection methodologies and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in delivering presentations to community groups and officials.
  • Ability to review and proofread personal and others' work.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and evaluating data to develop logical conclusions and reports.
  • Proficiency in using relevant computer applications.
Physical Requirements
  • This position is typically office-based.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting.
Work Category
  • Light work - Involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Urban or Community Planning; AND
  • Three years of experience as a community planner, with at least two years as a project leader in community planning.
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education (minimum of a 4-year degree in Urban/Community Planning), training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Emergency Management Responsibilities

In the event of an emergency or disaster, employees may be required to promptly respond to duties and responsibilities as assigned by their department or relevant authorities. Such assignments may occur before, during, or after the emergency or disaster.
