We are seeking a seasoned multi-line underwriter to join our team, focusing on elevating our insurance programs. Your role will involve independently evaluating complex risks for middle market to large accounts and cultivating relationships with brokers and carriers to help Heffernan build a profitable book of business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts daily underwriting activities at an advanced level.
  • Utilizes expertise to assess and negotiate intricate customer accounts, aiming to minimize risk and enhance profitability.
  • Underwrites General Liability, Property, Inland Marine, Auto, Workers Compensation, and Excess lines.
  • Implements rate strategies for renewal accounts.
  • Proposes innovative alternatives regarding pricing, coverage, etc., to support favorable risks.
  • Collaborates with underwriting assistants to carry out support and administrative tasks as per established workflows.
  • Implements and communicates program strategies to the team.
  • Fosters continuous communication among all functional areas, including leadership, sales, and operations.
  • Maintains underwriting files in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Conducts soft audits.
  • Orders and reviews inspections to ensure accounts align with initial underwriting assessments and takes corrective actions when necessary.
  • Assists colleagues in resolving issues related to program objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with underwriting standards, objectives, and guidelines.
  • Implements updates to written program guidelines as needed.
  • Organizes and reviews files during audits by carrier partners.
  • Develops and nurtures effective business relationships with agents and carriers to attract and retain profitable business.
  • Collaborates with senior management on product development, processes, and underwriting strategies.
  • Submits referrals to carriers as directed by senior leadership.
  • Understands all programs and products at Heffernan to effectively advocate within the agency community.
  • Actively manages programs to achieve production targets.
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned.

  • 5-8 years of progressive experience in underwriting package lines.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is competitive, with opportunities for performance-based bonuses. The final offer will be influenced by various factors, including geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
