Swords to Plowshares is a community-based not-for-profit organization that provides counseling and case management, employment and training, housing, and legal assistance to veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission is to support veterans as they navigate the challenges of post-military life and to prevent and end veteran homelessness through wrap-around care and informed advocacy.

Job Title: Deputy Director for Clinical Programs

The Deputy Director for Clinical Programs is a dynamic senior leadership role that oversees Swords to Plowshares' clinical services across residential and non-residential locations. This position ensures the safety and well-being of veterans, particularly those with disabilities who are experiencing or exiting homelessness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Staff supervision and clinical program oversight
  • Quality review and delivery of comprehensive care to veterans in our housing programs and Service Centers
  • Program implementation and oversight, including adherence to best practices and laws regarding confidentiality, privacy, and reporting requirements
  • Community partnerships and advocacy for veterans' mental and behavioral health funding and policy needs
  • Contract oversight and development of clinical program goals, activities, and reporting tools for government grant proposals
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field
  • Valid CA BBS License required (MFT, LCSW, LPCC) along with the ability to supervise BBS Interns
  • Training in the use of DSM V, DSM V - TR to develop provisional diagnosis
  • Experience providing counseling and other services to underserved and marginalized communities
  • Experience in managing community-based programs and providing clinical supervision to BBS registered Interns
Qualifications:
  • Familiarity and understanding of veterans and homelessness issues with an emphasis on the challenges with readjustment
  • Ability to manage and implement program design and implementation of services
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff in a multi-services-oriented setting
  • Commitment to treating all clients and colleagues with dignity and respect
Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills, including conflict resolution, crisis intervention, quality assurance, staff development, and performance appraisal
  • Effective time management skills
  • Good analytical and organizational ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
