Pharmacy Technician Ambulatory Retail

Job Summary:
The Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician will play a critical role in processing prescriptions for patients and their families in the clinic setting. This individual will work closely with pharmacists to collect medication histories, fill scripts, and coordinate payments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determine patient insurance requirements for pre-certification, patient payments, and coverage limitations, and take necessary actions prior to discharge.
- Maintain communication with ambulatory-based clinical pharmacists, social workers, discharge, and specialty pharmacy program team members to obtain complete and accurate financial information required for claim adjudication.
- Immediately communicate any issues with coverage to the clinical practice to determine the appropriate next steps.
- Communicate benefit investigation information proactively to the clinical practices and patients.
- Support all myPennPharmacy services as needed.
- Collaborate with internal team members to gather appropriate paperwork, prescriptions, billing information, and/or prescriptions.
- Provide follow-up relating to communication to patients, clinical practices, and families for pharmaceutical needs and/or additional eligibility information to ensure ongoing medication access.
- Interact with medical staff and their designees to obtain complete, accurate, and timely clinical and financial information required for payer reimbursement.
- Provide education to patients and clinical practices regarding patient insurance coverage as it relates to their discharge medications.
- Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Qualifications:
- CPhT certification required.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- For Pharmacy Tech Trainee: High school diploma/GED required, CPhT certification required within 6 months of hire, and at least 6 months of Pharmacy Tech experience.
