Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional care and support to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced vocational nursing work, including administering medications and treatments, making rounds and/or home visits, and working in other locations as needed.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory examination and conduct appropriate screening tests when requested by lab personnel.
  • Monitor individuals' weight, diet, feedings, and vital signs, and report any changes or concerns to the RN and/or Primary Care Provider.
  • Perform complex and technical nursing procedures, such as tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, and breathing treatments, in accordance with facility and state regulations.
  • Lead, monitor, and oversee others who are monitoring individuals before, during, and after treatments and procedures, and evaluate nursing intervention outcomes and confer with other healthcare members as necessary.
  • Train and instruct new LVN staff to perform nursing functions at the SSLC, including acclimating them to the individuals, their needs, and preferences.
  • Participate in facility Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiatives and participate in facility committees as requested.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures, and techniques, and of the principles and processes used in providing appropriate patient care.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, such as CPR, and ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF-IID) rules, regulations, policy, and procedures related to State Supported Living Center or ability to quickly gain that knowledge.
  • Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and in considering appropriate resolution of situations.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and delivery of health services, to interpret policies and procedures, to interpret health care regulations, to recognize patterns of medical necessity treatment, and to plan, assign, and/or oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to provide patient care to a wide variety of individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and to use an electronic health record system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to instruct others.
