Purpose Statement

The role of the Instructional Support Intern is designed to assist in the educational framework both within and outside the designated classroom. This position is primarily focused on providing support to individual students or small groups to enhance their learning experience, monitor academic performance, and facilitate educational activities. The intern will also engage in various instructional and classroom management tasks, supervise students in non-classroom settings, and perform administrative duties to aid teachers and staff.

Supervisory Relationship

This position reports directly to the Peer to Peer teacher and the instructional aides of the program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health Support: Provide first aid as directed by healthcare professionals to address immediate health concerns.
  • Student Engagement: Assist students in small groups or individually with assignments, including reading, writing, and reinforcing lessons in English and other subjects.
  • Classroom Assistance: Collaborate with teachers to modify classroom activities and materials to align with educational goals.
  • Professional Development: Participate in meetings and training sessions on relevant topics such as technology integration, child development, and instructional strategies to enhance job performance.
  • Effective Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with teachers and students to support educational objectives, including providing updates on student progress and needs.
  • Resource Management: Oversee classroom supplies and maintain organized records to ensure a conducive learning environment.
  • Student Supervision: Monitor students in various settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and during field trips, to ensure safety and promote positive behavior.
  • Instructional Support: Deliver small group instruction under the guidance of the classroom teacher in subjects such as mathematics and social skills.
  • Incident Documentation: Report any incidents or observations related to student behavior or safety to appropriate personnel.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Respond to emergencies, ensuring the safety of students and coordinating with relevant authorities.
  • Teacher Collaboration: Assist classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and instructional methods effectively.
  • Academic Support: Help students with their assignments and monitor their independent study efforts to facilitate learning.
  • Additional Duties: Carry out other related responsibilities as assigned to support the efficient operation of the classroom and school.

Experience

Must be a current high school student with at least two years of involvement in Peer-to-Peer Leadership.

Education

Must be in the Junior or Senior year of high school.

Clearances

Must possess a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
