OVERVIEW:
The Senior Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Innovator will play a pivotal role in establishing and sustaining a premier technical and process innovation initiative. This role is chiefly accountable for guaranteeing that processes deliver an adequate level of defense against foodborne pathogens and related hazards. The position necessitates the application of analytical thinking to refine existing systems and procedures, aiming to eradicate potential food safety concerns through data utilization and advanced analytics. The incumbent will assist in assessing and harnessing novel technologies or innovative FSQA solutions and methodologies through research and data analysis. Collaboration with essential business partners, including FSQA, operations (Agricultural and Value Added), innovation, and research and development teams, is a key aspect of this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assess emerging technologies and food safety solutions by executing scientific studies designed to provide actionable insights regarding their feasibility for applications ranging from agricultural settings to processing facilities.
• Analyze and convert scientific data into comprehensive reports for the business, summarizing technology and process evaluations, and when relevant, offering actionable recommendations for implementation, including timelines and resource requirements.
• Provide scientific knowledge and support for the integration of new technologies and processes across Dole operations.
• Collaborate with business partners to pinpoint operational challenges that can be resolved or enhanced through process or technical innovation, creating a roadmap for continuous improvement.
• Design programs, training resources, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to facilitate the implementation of technologies or processes, including suitable assessment criteria, data collection and analysis, and the development of actionable insights and reporting.
• Assist FSQA Supply Chain and Operations teams in formulating appropriate analysis and trending tools for data, providing the business with actionable guidance on KPIs related to food safety and quality to bolster compliance.
• Engage with industry partners and organizations regarding new technology and research applications pertinent to the produce sector.
• Effectively review, synthesize, and communicate scientific, regulatory, and technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences through written and verbal communication.
• Process substantial volumes of data or information and convey recommendations for further enhancements to mitigate FSQA risks.
• Actively cultivate and sustain relationships with key business partners, including relevant Procurement, Innovation, R&D, Marketing, Operations, Logistics, Sales, and Legal teams as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.
• Travel as required to support business needs, scientific studies, and industry engagement.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in FSQA and/or Food Microbiology or Food Chemistry. Experience in designing and executing scientific studies is preferred.
• Strong organizational and planning capabilities.
• Proficient in designing and implementing scientific studies in operational contexts.
• Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record in root cause analysis for identifying corrective actions and resolving issues.
• Expertise in Statistical Process Control and both linear and logistic statistical analysis.
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and preventive controls.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and make prompt, accurate decisions regarding food safety and regulatory compliance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Teams, and Visio).
• Experience with statistical software such as SAS, R, M+, SPSS, Python, JMP, etc.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is desirable.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Microbiology, Food Science, Biostatistics, or a related field.
• An advanced degree is strongly preferred.
SALARY RANGE:
- $89,000 - $91,000 Annually
