About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Information Manager to join our team at Knowhirematch. As a key member of our healthcare organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of health information in compliance with federal and state laws and our organization's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the coding unit, including workload and staffing, hiring, disciplining, and performance appraisals, training, and monitoring quality of work.
  • Develop long-range and short-term goals, objectives, plans, and programs, and ensure they are implemented.
  • Assist in planning, developing, and controlling the budget, including staffing costs, capital equipment, and operations of the coding unit.
  • Evaluate the impact of innovations and changes in programs, policies, and procedures for the coding unit, design and implement systems and methods to improve data accessibility, identify, assess, and resolve problems, and prepare administrative reports.
  • Monitor and maintain acceptable accounts receivables associated with un-coded charts.
  • Oversee and monitor the coding compliance program, develop and coordinate educational and training programs regarding elements of the coding compliance program, such as appropriate documentation and accurate coding to all appropriate staff, including coding staff, physicians, billing staff, and ancillary departments.
  • Conduct and oversee coding audit efforts and coordinate monitoring of coding accuracy and documentation adequacy, report noncompliance issues detected through auditing and monitoring, the nature of corrective action plans, and the results of follow-up audits to the directors of the hospital and the compliance officer.
  • Conduct trend analyses to identify patterns and variations in coding practices and case-mix-index, compare coding and reimbursement profile with national and regional norms to identify variations requiring further investigation.
  • Review claim denials and rejections pertaining to coding and medical necessity issues, and when necessary, implement corrective action plan, such as educational programs, to prevent similar denials and rejections from recurring.
  • Oversee chart completion on all discharged patients for accuracy and timeliness, oversee patient advocacy on release of information and patient portal assistance.
  • Interact with Information Services to ensure data integrity and accurate documentation practices.
  • Monitor release of medical information in accordance with medical center policies and procedures, as well as Federal and State regulations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate tumor registry filing on all cancer cases to the Montana Central Tumor Registry.
  • Maintain complete and accurate birth registry filing on all facility birth to the Montana registry.
  • Monitor accuracy and necessity of documents scanned to patient records.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or extensive education and/or certifications in health information management (HIM) required.
  • Master's degree in business administration or health administration preferred.
  • Three years of hospital and professional coding (in-patient and out-patient) experience required.
