Operating Room Specialist

Job Title: Operating Room Specialist
Estimated Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year
The Operating Room Specialist will maintain the sterile field in the operating room, ensuring proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. This role assists the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Comply with all applicable Joint Commission patient safety goals.
- Follows principles of Infection Prevention Control in the OR.
- Perform surgical scrub prior to the surgical procedure.
- Participate in the time-out before the surgical procedure.
- Institute sterile technique as a scrub personnel.
- Anticipate the need of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner.
- Help prepare specimens, hold retractors, cut sutures, and apply surgical dressings, as directed.
- Demonstrate competency in the use and care of surgical instruments.
- Perform accurate intra-operative sponge, sharps, and instrument count.
- Identify methods of sterilization and disinfection and criteria for each method.
- Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room.
- Attend department meetings/in-service and mandatory hospital in-service.
Requirements:
- Graduate of Surgical Technician Program preferred or prior surgical technician experience.
- Previous OR experience is preferred.
- BLS obtained within 6 months of hire.
