Job Summary

The Custodial Worker performs routine custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for the Winthrop University community. This role is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and organization of buildings and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cleans offices, rooms, hallways, stairwells, lobbies, and other building facilities
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums, dusts, and waxes and polishes floors, requiring occasional furniture movement
  • Cleans inside and outside of windows, potentially using an extension ladder
  • Cleans and services public, private, and semi-private bathrooms
  • Collects and disposes of trash in designated containers
  • Moves supplies and equipment between buildings
  • Sweeps and cleans walks and assists in maintaining the surrounding areas
  • Clears walks and steps of ice and snow

Requirements

  • Elementary education
  • Preferred: One year of custodial experience
  • General knowledge of cleaning techniques and practices
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and supervisors
