GENERAL FUNCTION:

Support the execution of moderately complex financial evaluations across critical business sectors within the Bancorp. Contribute to periodic SEC filings and represent SEC reporting in various accounting and finance initiatives. Act as a financial authority for Fifth Third Bancorp lines of business and external agencies to comprehend and fulfill the information requirements essential for sustainable growth. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieve results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting various types of risks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify key business factors (both internal and external) and accounting issues impacting SEC filing preparation.
  • Continuously develop knowledge to stay updated on existing and emerging issues in accounting and banking; apply this knowledge to assist in completing SEC filings.
  • Formulate recommendations and action plans to enhance disclosures and streamline processes to mitigate identified risks.
  • Assist in executing SEC filings and conducting financial analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Analyze peer disclosures to identify reporting trends and improvement areas.
  • Maintain existing schedules and reports for information updates.
  • Document, assess, and enhance report designs and processes to ensure analytical tools evolve with business changes.
  • Participate in New General Ledger Account meetings to ensure the general ledger infrastructure and chart of accounts meet SEC reporting requirements.
  • Monitor monthly internal financial statements and assist in identifying and resolving related accounting and presentation issues.
  • Support proper Sarbanes-Oxley documentation in connection with SEC filings.
  • Assist with the implementation and ongoing compliance of various technical accounting standards.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance, either in industry or public accounting.
  • Proficient in MS-Windows and related PC applications.
  • Willingness and ability to learn mainframe applications and automated data analysis tools and techniques.
  • This role requires excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills to interact with personnel from clerical staff to senior management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performance measurement tools and technology.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a dynamic work environment that often necessitates managing multiple tasks.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and apply logical/critical thinking processes.
