We are seeking a highly skilled Boiler Operations Specialist to join our team at the State of South Carolina. As a key member of our Central Heating Plant team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining high-pressure steam boilers to ensure safe and efficient delivery of heat and steam to our facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and Maintain Boilers: Operate one electrical high-voltage boiler, two gas-and-oil-fired boilers, and two gas-fired boilers in the Heating Plant and assist with boilers in other university locations as may be required.
- Monitor Boiler Operations: Monitor boiler operations, immediately report any abnormalities or problems observed, make adjustments to boilers or controls as instructed, troubleshoot problems to determine whether an adjustment is needed or there is a system failure, and make the necessary adjustment or report the failure.
- Perform Preventive Maintenance: Perform preventive and semi-routine maintenance on boilers and related mechanical equipment, as instructed, perform internal inspections, and assist in preparing boilers for annual inspection and testing.
- Supervise Fuel Unloading and Storage: Supervise the unloading and storage of fuel oil.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma and two years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of the techniques and procedures for operating high-pressure steam boilers, good mechanical aptitude, ability to follow written instructions and directions, think and act quickly in an emergency, lift up to 80 pounds, work in extreme temperatures and around loud equipment, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, co-workers, and supervisor.
- Preferred Qualifications: Three years of relevant experience.
