Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Special Imaging for the MRI Division, and in accordance with standard procedures, the MRI Technologist operates an MRI unit and related equipment to produce high-quality MRI images of designated anatomical areas. The successful candidate will collect and maintain accurate records of patient data and equipment operation, provide assistance to patients and radiologists, and perform minor equipment troubleshooting and quality control functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and calibrate the MRI unit for daily operation, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Select and adjust technical factors for individual patients, taking into account their specific needs and medical conditions.
  • Screen patients and visitors prior to entry into the magnetic imaging area, assessing their physical condition and ensuring their safety during the procedure.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, explaining the nature and type of examination to be performed, and obtaining informed consent as required.
  • Operate and navigate various imaging software systems, including MAK Syngo PACS and Lifelinks, to capture and manage patient data.
  • Record and maintain accurate patient history, including information from patient charts, referring physicians, and patient interviews.
  • Position patients for imaging, ensuring optimal positioning and comfort, and perform requested procedures.
  • Protect and immobilize patients in accordance with prescribed safety standards, minimizing the risk of injury or discomfort.
  • Utilize a range of technical equipment, including computers, radio frequency generators, gradient coils, and multi-format cameras, to produce high-quality MRI images.
  • Perform complex imaging procedures, including cross-sectional, sagittal, coronal, and obliquely generated MRI images.
  • Prepare and quality-assure images for interpretation by radiologists, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist radiologists in developing new procedures and protocols, and participate in in-service educational programs for technical staff.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the latest developments in MRI technology, and stay up-to-date with required in-service training.
  • Participate in clinical instruction and supervision of MRI students, and maintain a working area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Understand and practice principles of safety related to strong magnetic fields, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of MRI technology and its applications.
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiological Technology.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, advanced MRI applications, and computer operations.
  • Basic understanding of computer console operation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with patients, families, departmental staff, physicians, and others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in Ultrasound, CT, Nuclear Medicine, DSA, cross-sectional anatomy, and computer operations.
  • MRI experience preferred.
