Patient Care Specialist

University of Maryland Shore Regional Health is seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team. As a Patient Care Technician, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision of professional nursing staff. Your primary responsibilities will include taking vital signs, checking surgical dressings, and assisting patients with activities of daily living.
Key Responsibilities- Perform testing and manage patient care based on results achieved and clinical findings.
- Record patient care activities, including feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
- Complete, document, and report patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, and reported pain level.
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
- Participate in cost-effective strategies to optimize patient outcomes.
- Promote patient safety, including fall prevention, and ensure the safety of the clinical environment.
- Maintain order and appearance of patient rooms and work areas, and maintain patient care supplies and linen.
- Provide post-mortem care.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to carry out the plan of care, including reporting observed changes in patients' condition.
- Ensure patient comfort relative to their pain status.
- Measure and document dietary intake, patient urinary and stool output, and calorie count.
- Conduct indwelling urinary catheter care, apply, maintain, and remove external urinary catheter devices, and conduct blood glucose monitoring.
- Provide wound care to promote healing and maintain structural integrity of the skin.
- Assist with collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing.
- Provide orthopedic/rehab device care, including donning and doffing compression wraps/stockings.
- Participate in hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Respond to patient-triggered alarms, including call light, chair alarm, bed alarm, tele-sitter alarm, etc.
- Comply with The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals within the scope of practice.
- Detect, report, and act to avoid or correct safety risks, and report adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
- Provide professional vigilance to assigned patients, including when assigned as a patient safety companion.
- Incorporate safe lifting techniques and body mechanics in daily practice.
- Improve patient flow and prevent care delays.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) required.
- No previous experience required; previous direct patient care experience in a healthcare facility preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
