Position Overview:

The Schmidt College of Medicine is inviting applications for a collaborative and innovative academic geriatrician to join our faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Geriatric Medicine. This role is designed for individuals with a background in teaching, leadership, innovation, and clinical service within the field of Geriatric Medicine.
This position encompasses both educational and clinical responsibilities. The clinical aspect will involve patient care in post-acute and long-term care settings at skilled nursing facilities, as well as conducting outpatient geriatric consultations within the FAU Medicine practice. The instructional duties are flexible and may include direct teaching of residents and medical students in various settings such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, simulation centers, or through didactic and small group sessions. Opportunities for scholarly activities and quality improvement initiatives are also available. Furthermore, there are pathways for professional growth in academic rank, supported by mentorship from senior faculty members.
The mission of the Schmidt College of Medicine is to enhance the health and well-being of our community by training future generations of compassionate clinicians and scientists while translating discoveries into patient-centered care. We aim to provide educational programs, in collaboration with our hospital partners, that empower our medical students and residents to become proactive, self-directed, lifelong learners. Our graduates will be equipped to effectively treat the patients they are most likely to encounter in their careers, possessing the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self-awareness necessary for practicing effective, compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based medicine. We emphasize the importance of collaborative relationships in delivering high-quality comprehensive healthcare and value collaboration among medical specialties, as well as between academic medicine and community healthcare professionals.
Our objective is to produce graduates who are ready and motivated to contribute significantly to three essential state goals: (1) delivering the highest quality healthcare to Florida's citizens; (2) ensuring the state has an adequate number of medical faculty to support Florida's medical schools and maintain access to medical education; and (3) developing physician-scientists equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for board certification in internal medicine and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Essential Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution with credentials qualifying for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
- Completion of a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine.
- Board certification in Geriatric Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Osteopathic Internal Medicine (ABOIM).
- A proven track record of clinical excellence and experience in Geriatric Medicine is preferred.
- Extensive teaching experience with students and/or residents, demonstrating teaching excellence.
- Commitment to academic excellence, teaching, and research in Geriatric Medicine.
- Strong ethical standards and professional conduct.
- Effective communication skills with diverse members of the healthcare system and learners from various backgrounds.
- Understanding of how cultural differences influence the medical field.
- Support for a culture of inclusivity and belonging.
- Passion for working in an organization that prioritizes inclusivity and belonging.
- Applicants with teaching experience, administrative leadership in outpatient practices and skilled nursing facilities, and/or clinical research experience will be highly competitive.
