Position Overview:
As a Front Load Driver, you will be responsible for operating front-end trucks that service various multi-family residential and commercial routes, efficiently removing and transporting waste or recyclables in accordance with customer agreements.

This role involves servicing multiple clients daily based on assigned routes. The collected waste must then be delivered to the designated station, landfill, or drop-off site.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate commercial front-load trucks or related equipment along specified routes to mechanically gather solid waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
  • Access container enclosures or gates to reach waste bins, rolling 3-4 yard containers into position for emptying as necessary.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections, completing and submitting a vehicle condition report at the end of each shift.
  • Engage courteously with customers and the public along the route, addressing inquiries or requests; report any issues to the supervisor that require management intervention.
  • Maintain cleanliness around the truck and customer site by removing loose trash that spills during the dumping process, ensuring safety along roadways.
  • Keep and submit a logbook, daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report as mandated by law or company policy.
  • Skillfully maneuver the truck in and out of tight spaces, utilizing mirrors for backing up.
  • Utilize a key map and GPS to accurately locate service addresses.
  • Adhere to safe operating practices, including lockout/tagout procedures to ensure the truck's proper operation.
  • Monitor operations for loose debris, using mirrors or direct sight to ensure a clean and safe environment before and after dumping.
  • Comply with all safety standards, equipment checks, and precautions while performing duties, following all federal, state, local, and company regulations regarding safety and vehicle operation.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • At least one (1) year of commercial truck driving experience or a CDL school certificate.
  • Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate the truck and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Understanding of truck components and basic maintenance for safe operation.
  • Ability to control equipment operations, maneuvering the truck in tight spaces using mirrors to back up distances of approximately 120 feet or more.
  • Capability to identify unacceptable waste (e.g., flammable materials).
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend related documents and maps.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Physical capability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds repeatedly using proper techniques.
  • Coordination of limbs while sitting or standing.
  • Adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.

Physical/Mental Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus due to constant vehicle maneuvering in tight, high-traffic areas.
  • Regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds. Occasionally move/push up to 300 pounds.
  • Ability to enter and exit the truck to open doors multiple times during a shift.
  • Climb to the top of the truck to ensure the load is secured before transport.
  • Sitting is required 75% of the time due to the primary function of driving.
  • Ability to work in typically loud conditions.

Working Conditions:
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise, humidity, rain/storms, extreme temperatures (hot and cold), moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work primarily in an outdoor environment.
  • Continuous route work away from the branch location throughout the day.
  • Occasional work in high, precarious places.
  • Constantly navigate motor vehicle traffic conditions.
  • Work environment is generally loud.
