Job Overview

PowerFlex is seeking a highly skilled Senior Renewable Energy Engineer to lead our Business Development team through the pre-contract engineering process. As a key player in technical development and engineering, this individual will be responsible for vetting and preparing projects for successful execution by the Project Engineering and Project Management team.

This role requires excellent time management and organizational skills, as well as the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and externally. The successful candidate will be self-starting, creative, and motivated, with a strong understanding of procedures and timelines of technical due diligence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to set expectations and communicate technical due diligence requirements during the project development phase.
  • Ensure project viability by communicating PV and battery storage requirements to the Business Development team and clients.
  • Stay up-to-date on interconnection process and incentive structure as it relates to tariffs, states, and utilities.
  • Request, review, and approve proposals from external vendors, ensuring development costs are within the approved budget.
  • Prepare and submit interconnection applications and communicate with utilities throughout the review and approval process.
  • Review and communicate cost information regarding utility upgrades and project-related costs to the Estimating team.
  • Oversee the process for structural feasibility studies and work with vendors to estimate costs associated with structural limitations.
  • Build rapport with external utility personnel by learning and understanding their changing requirements, attending their events, and staying up-to-date on the changing nature of the utility industry.
  • Perform site assessments alongside engineering partners, which may require driving and using ladders.
  • Work with the wider engineering team to stay updated on best project practices to ensure a smooth project execution upon handoff to the project construction team.
  • Oversee the evaluation of third-party designs and controls schemes.
  • Contribute to Microgrid Design best practices and technical offerings that can be applied to different geographies and use cases.

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry, preferably in project development.
  • Renewable Power Distribution Systems experience (Inverter-based – Energy Storage & Solar).
  • Power system modeling experience is a plus.
  • NABCEP certification is a plus.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues through succinct, cohesive summaries and presentations.

  • Competitive salary range: $81,000 - $135,000 annually.

  • Annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable).

Working Conditions:

  • Remote or hybrid working environment, splitting time between office/remote workplace and out in the field for site assessments.
  • Site assessments will require standing, walking, and able to document/measure existing conditions.
