Job Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) operates under the direction and oversight of the Physician, engaging in a collaborative approach to deliver care and treatment to patients. This role involves providing clinical support and technical assistance to the medical team while adhering to the standards set by the New York State Department of Education. The ideal candidate will effectively manage a demanding workload with precision and possess outstanding customer service skills when interacting with patients, their families, colleagues, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support physicians during patient consultations by preparing examination rooms, taking vital signs, updating medication lists in line with provider protocols, and accurately documenting patient medical histories in electronic records.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as per physician directives, ensuring compliance with the Five Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Conduct specific clinical assessments, including glucose finger sticks and A1C tests.
  • Handle administrative duties such as completing forms, processing prescription refills, managing referrals, communicating with patients, obtaining prior authorizations, verifying charts before appointments, and gathering relevant medical documentation from other healthcare providers.
  • Assist providers in following up on lab and imaging results, promptly communicating findings to patients as instructed.
  • Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and supply levels of examination rooms.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Manage patient inquiries via phone and electronic messages, prioritizing and responding appropriately.
  • Assist in obtaining patient medical records as needed.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and universal precautions.
  • Deliver all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Possession of a current New York State LPN license is mandatory.
  • Previous experience as an LPN in a medical office setting, particularly in Internal Medicine, is preferred.
  • A valid Infection Control Certificate is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is essential.
Skills and Requirements
  • Capability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical risk management.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems is advantageous.
  • Willingness to work one Saturday each month.
  • Flexibility to travel to various Medical Group locations as needed.
  • Standard working hours are four days a week from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with a variable day off during the week.
