We are seeking a skilled Trades Assistant to join our team at Huntington Ingalls Industries. As a Trades Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing expert solutions on shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization in the San Diego, CA area.
Key Responsibilities- Assist skilled maintenance trades workers in performing various tasks, including supplying and holding materials and tools, cleaning working areas, and performing other unskilled tasks as directed.
- Perform specific or general duties of lesser skill, such as operating specialized machines, performing maintenance and minor repairs, and making local pick-ups and deliveries of supplies and equipment.
- Assist in the receipt and inventory of materials, tools, and equipment, and report any equipment failures or areas of the workspace in need of repair or maintenance to supervisors.
- Work independently and as part of a team to perform duties with integrity and adhere to company safety policies and regulations.
- High school diploma or trades school equivalent (GED) and 0 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret clearance and a DBIDS/CAC badge for base access/credentials.
- Experience working in a team environment and ability to travel.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and have a valid driver's license.
- Knowledge and/or experience in a trades specialty, including mechanical, electrical, electronic, welding, HVAC, and fitting.
- Prior marine and/or industrial experience, as well as experience reading and using precision measuring tools.
- OSHA 10 maritime Certification and possession of an active DOD Clearance.
The selected candidate must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes, with a minimum weight requirement of 30 lbs. They must also be able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
