Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled General Engineer/Architect to join our team at the Architect of the Capitol. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing project planning, design, budgets, and construction schedules to ensure that projects are completed within guidelines and on time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare requirements and criteria for complex, high-value projects for construction or modification of facilities.
  • Review and evaluate project status for attainment of objectives.
  • Oversee project planning, design, budgets, and construction schedules to assure that the project is completed within guidelines and on time.
  • Initiate, manage, administer, and approve plans that translate project objectives into completed functional phases.
  • Advises on the effectiveness of funding and staffing estimates to assure that there are sufficient resources to support project objectives.
  • Reviews and approves operating plans and approaches, establishes overall project priorities, procedures, and short and long-range goals.
  • Ensures environmental, sustainability, safety, accessibility, security, and reliability requirements are incorporated in assigned design and construction projects.
  • Provides oversight of modernization projects, including constructability issues, tenant coordination, quality, and value engineering reviews.
  • Develops authoritative responses to project questions and issues.
  • Ensures that renovations preserve historically significant building characteristics and include the sustainability of green building, energy and water conservation goals.
  • Conducts periodic visits to the field to provide on-site guidance, advice, and line-item review of programs/projects.
  • Ensures contractor compliance with contract specifications.
  • Independently determines the source of and resolves problems relating to design and construction delays, excessive costs, and other technical problems.
  • Initiates corrective actions in coordination with the appropriate AOC or LOC offices.
  • Provides guidance and technical advice to lower-grade employees and specialists within the organization in the performance of related assignments and is available to those employees for consultation on assigned projects.
  • Resolves technical difficulties as well as issues involving historic preservation that can be overcome by changes in approach, criteria, or requirements.
  • Ensures that organizational strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated and incorporated into strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and services.

  • You must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Your resume and question responses must demonstrate the job-related KSAs.
  • You must meet the definition of specialized experience.
  • You must meet the education requirements for General Engineer or Architect.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
