About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Mammography Technologist to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our breast imaging department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms, as well as bone density testing, on physician-referred patients in accordance with established clinical protocols and MQSA Quality Guidelines.
  • Deliver patient care in accordance with departmental standards, adapting to customer needs and preferences.
  • Use proper telephone scripting and accurately document patient images electronically.
  • Position the breast to obtain the appropriate standard and alternative views, adjusting technique as needed for thorough quality exams.
  • Keep patients informed and encourage them to ask questions regarding their care.
  • Apply radiation protection to patients in accordance with accepted radiation protection standards for mammography.
  • Document patient history and other pertinent clinical information in RIS or Penrad computer databases.
  • Select technical factors to ensure appropriate capture of digital images.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare and process patient clinical and demographic information, ensuring accuracy of historic and current information.
  • Secure mammography films performed elsewhere and obtain current personal and family history of breast disease using computer databases.
  • Obtain patient consent forms as required, including Pregnancy Consent and Verification, Authorization Form to Release Medical Information, and Consent for Interventional Procedures.
  • Document the presence of physical lumps, moles, or other skin lesions with BB Markers and draw or label breast diagrams in Penrad.
  • Prepare mammographic images, scans documentation, and determine when radiographic exams adhere to department standards for interpretation by the Radiologist.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved program in Radiologic Technology with 40 hours of specialized training and continuing education in mammography.
  • Knowledge of breast anatomy and ability to recognize patients experiencing fear or anxiety.
  • Ability to handle anxious and fearful patients and demonstrate technical skills as a radiographer.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and IDNS License.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and to use patient handling equipment when necessary. The ideal candidate will be flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and growing patient volume.
